Royal Dublin Golf Club is a classic golf links located just north of Dublin city centre on the famous Bull Island nature reserve.

Within three miles of Dublin city centre and a 15-minute drive of Dublin International Airport you will find Royal Dublin Golf Club. Numerous championship events have been played out on this course, including the Irish Open.

Royal Dublin Golf Club is Ireland’s second oldest golf club. The links course was first designed in 1920 by Harry Colt, the influential golf architect. Expert links designer Martin Hawtree made changes to the course to bring it up to modern standards in the early 2000s.

The course has a classic out and back layout where you play out on the front 9 away from the clubhouse and turn towards home for the back 9. The course has been lengthened by over 400 yards in total and it is now over 7,200 yards. While accurate shot-making is beneficial, skilful course management is integral to doing well at Royal Dublin Golf Club.

Crossing the wooden bridge from Clontarf out to Bull Island and the Royal Dublin Golf Club is an experience itself.

Facilities

Royal Dublin Golf Club has a champi­onship-standard practice facility, known as ‘the Garden’ containing a driving range, chipping green, putting green and practice net.

The Pro Shop offers advice, lessons, custom fitting, equipment sales and rental.

Food & Drink

The famous clubhouse offers golfers a mix of formal and informal bars and restaurants with spectacular views over Bull Island and Dollymount Strand. The Christy O’Connor Room is a formal bar and requires a jacket.

Tournaments

The Irish Open was first held at Royal Dublin Golf Club in 1894. Since then Royal Dublin has hosted over 50 professional and amateur championships.

Things to do

While staying in Dublin, you may be based in Portmarnock, less than 15km from Dublin city centre, or in the city centre . From the Guinness Storehouse to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Zoo, and the Book of Kells at Trinity College, there is something for everybody.

A popular attraction is the original Jameson Distillery in Smithfield. This has been the home of Irish Whiskey ever since John Jameson first set up shop in 1780. A trip to Bow Street offers guided tours and tasting experiences. It will give you a real appreciation for the Jameson story, from its heritage, to its production process which gives it the world renowned, iconic taste.
